Bernod's Spun City Cotton Candy Review and Giveaway

I will be starting a new blog that will focus on one healthy, organic, vegan and delicious product a day. Today was a snow day so we decided to start today.
Our day started out like this
We got 8 inches of the heaviest snow I have ever seen. This snow was so pretty, but so hard to shovel. We spent most of our day like this:

So after lots and lots of hard work we needed a treat.
The Bernod Group (@BernodGroup) sent us a box of both of their organic cotton candy flavors to try.  They sent us two packages of the cherry vanilla and the grape flavors.  Each package is certified USDA organic and is 1 oz in size. When you have hungry kids in the house 1 oz does not last long enough! Bernod's spun city was a huge hit in our house.

My kids do not get junk food very often. Basically it is a rare occasion, like a visit to the circus every 5 years, where we might buy cotton candy. The kids ripped into the cotton candy, excited to try something sweet.
My 6 year old ripped open the grape and said MMMMMM. He was quiet for a few minutes, ripping off little pieces, letting each small piece melt in his mouth. He loved the grape flavor. He also tried a little bit of the cherry vanilla and he thought that flavor was a bit better. He ate most of the grape bag and after a while he said
"This snack is so good, it is like it is tickling my throat."

My 12 year old came in to give his opinion. He tried the cherry vanilla flavor first.
"Wow, this snack is amazing!!"

He ate the whole bag. He loved to stretch out huge pieces. He thought the cherry vanilla was an incredible flavor. He also preferred the cherry vanilla to the grape. His bag did not last long
The last taste tester in our group was the 3 year old princess. She wanted to see what everyone was eating. She took the cherry vanilla bag and took out a little piece.

Hmmm, what is this stuff she said??
What the heck she said, this tastes like feathers!!!
I guess you can't please them all!
This girl loves to eat salmon, broccoli and quinoa. I guess she just does not have a sweet tooth!

The back of the package says that this organic cotton candy will satisfy the sweetest tooth yet provides an all natural deliciously decadent treat.  The best part of this snack is that it does not use terrible colors to make the candy look pretty. I refuse to buy foods with Red 40, Blue 2, etc... but this treat does not have any of those.  The 1 oz serving has 110 calories, 0 fat , 0 cholesterol, 0 sodium and 28 grams of sugar.

You can follow the Bernod group on twitter @BernodGroup or check out their website www.Bernodspuncity.com

Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins

So there were 3 huge bananas on my counter turning browner by the day. Since I already had the oven on with 2 kinds of meatballs cooking, I decided to create a vegan banana chocolate chip muffin. These were incredibly delicious, and no added fat!!

Banana Chocolate Chip Muffin
4 medium size bananas mashed up well
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup applesauce
1 tsp cinnamon
dash of salt
3/4 cup white flour
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup vegan chocolate chips

Mix up the first 4 ingredients very well. Slowly add in the dry ingredients. Stir in the chocolate chips at the end. Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes. Enjoy!

Is it really 2011?

Hi Everyone
Cant believe I have not blogged in a month. Crazy!
The month of December went by in a flash. Sicknesses, holidays, vacation, craziness!
I am back with a great new idea!
While shopping in our local Mom's Organic Market a number of people stopped to talk with me about things I was buying, products I liked, and recipes I make. I decided to expand this blog and will focus on a few healthy products a week. I will tell you what it is made of, how healthy it is, who likes it in my house, picky kids included, and where you can buy it yourself!
It is always amazing to me how many healthy foods my kids will eat.
I hope you will enjoy my new focus and if you are a healthy food company, we are interested in taste tasting foods and sharing the results with our readers!
Stay tuned for many exciting recipes, food reviews and lots more from cookwith5kids from freezing cold Maryland!
Please follow me on Twitter if you are not already @cookwith5kids
My assistant and I are getting busy in the kitchen, be back real soon!!
